The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned traditional title holders against abusing their positions to dispossess people of their wives and landed property.

Oba Ladoja, who was officially installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, gave the warning during his inaugural address at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

Addressing Mogajis, Baales, and other chiefs, the former Oyo State governor said their roles as custodians of tradition should not be turned into avenues for oppression.

He declared:“All the traditional title holders, you have work to do. You have many roles to play. Do not snatch people’s wives and lands. That is not your role. I hope you are all listening to me.”

The monarch appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who attended the coronation alongside other dignitaries.

He hailed Ibadan as a unifying home for the Yoruba race, noting that “any Yoruba who has no house in Ibadan is yet to have a house.”

In a subtle reference to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the monarch reminded the President that Ibadan was where he met his wife, whom he described as his “pillar.”

Oba Ladoja also used the occasion to highlight the resilience of Ibadan’s traditional system, saying the city has always resolved its internal disputes peacefully without external interference.

“Some people thought Ibadan would be in crisis, but we have settled it. Ibadan has only one room but different windows. We settle things by ourselves,” he said.

He further expressed optimism about the creation of Ibadan State, pledging to continue working for the development of Ibadanland, Nigeria, and Africa at large.

“I thank the coronation committee. God still wants me to work more for the people, and I will continue to do so,” the monarch said.
