OPINION : The Disruptor From Eriti Akoko: How Adeyanju Is Redefining Grassroots Politics In Ondo North

When the story of modern grassroots transformation in Ondo North is told, one name will likely echo across communities — Engr. Michael Abayomi Adeyanju.

At 55, Adeyanju is not marking his new chapter with quiet celebrations but with bold political action. Born in Eriti Akoko, Akoko Northwest Local Government Area, he has steadily built a reputation as a disruptor in Ondo politics, earning recognition as a man who turns progressive ideals into tangible impact.

Far from the stereotype of a career politician, Adeyanju wears many hats — a business mogul, philanthropist, community mobiliser, and a staunch believer in the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s ideology of progressive change.

As Director General of the Imole Progressive Network (IPN), he leads a socio-political movement reshaping conversations across Akoko, Owo, and Ose — giving long-forgotten rural communities a renewed sense of belonging.

Unlike many politicians who thrive on promises and rallies, Adeyanju has opted for a politics of action. Across communities like Imeri, Oka Akoko, Akungba, Supare, Idoani and Imoru, abandoned boreholes have been restored under his intervention, bringing clean water back to households.

In Isuada, Owo, he renovated a long-neglected health centre, making healthcare services accessible to residents once again.

From free borehole projects to rural infrastructure, Adeyanju’s initiatives now dot the landscape of Ondo North — visible signs of what supporters describe as “leadership before election.”

Beyond physical projects, his empowerment initiatives have targeted education, entrepreneurship, youth development, and political participation. Scholarships, business grants, and enlightenment programmes have given hundreds of young people a chance to pursue dreams once stifled by poverty.

For Adeyanju, empowerment is not a campaign strategy but a sustained investment in people. His supporters say his politics is rooted in mentorship and grassroots engagement — values often missing in Ondo’s political space.

As the 2027 senatorial elections approach, one dominant question emerges across Ondo North: Who can truly represent the district?

Many residents argue that the answer lies in someone who has shown commitment long before ballot papers are printed. For them, Adeyanju’s approach marks a paradigm shift — from patronage to performance, and from power-seeking to service-driven politics.

“He didn’t wait to be elected before making an impact. That’s what we need — someone who already sees us before seeking our votes,” a resident of Oka Akoko told PLATFORM TIMES.

Another community member from Imeri recalled: “The borehole here was forgotten. He came, assessed it, and within weeks, it was working. We didn’t even beg him.”

As Ondo North prepares for another election cycle, Adeyanju’s name continues to dominate political discussions. Whether he formally declares for the Senate or not, many observers say his approach is already redefining grassroots politics in the region.

For supporters, the 55-year-old son of Eriti Akoko represents not just another politician, but the possibility of a new era — one built on integrity, powered by vision, and grounded in the service of people.
