The Listening School is proud to announce the release of two inspiring new children’s books: The ABC of Listening for Kids and Ruby Learns to Listen. Authored by Ebele Chukwujama, Founder and CEO of The Listening School, with Ingrid C. Nordli co-authoring Ruby Learns to Listen, these books aim to cultivate a culture of intentional listening among children, families, and communities.
These beautifully illustrated storybooks are more than just engaging reads, they are powerful tools designed to reshape how we understand and practice listening in everyday life.
The ABC of Listening for Kids
Written by Ebele Chukwujama, The ABC of Listening for Kids introduces children to 26 core values and habits of effective listening, from A for Attention to Z for Zest. Each letter offers a simple but meaningful lesson on how listening enhances relationships, learning, and community-building. The book is a timeless resource for classrooms, homes, and beyond, encouraging young readers to embrace listening as a life skill.
Ruby Learns to Listen
Co-authored by Ebele Chukwujama and Ingrid C. Nordli, Associate Professor at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, Ruby Learns to Listen tells the heartwarming story of Ruby, a curious young girl who discovers that listening is more than just hearing words. Through her journey, children learn that listening involves asking questions, observing body language, paying attention, and responding with care and respect.
To foster inclusivity and cultural connection, Ruby Learns to Listen has been translated into three major Nigerian languages:
• Yoruba – Ruby Ko Lati Tẹtísílẹ
• Igbo – Ruby Na-Amụta Ịge Nti
• Hausa – Ruby Tana Koyon Sauraro
These translations help extend Ruby’s story to diverse communities across Nigeria, reinforcing the universal value of listening in all cultures and languages.
From The Listening School
“These books are not just stories, they’re seeds,” said Ebele Chukwujama. “With The ABC of Listening for Kids and Ruby Learns to Listen, we are planting the values of empathy, respect, and understanding in the hearts of young readers. Our goal is to raise thoughtful listeners and compassionate leaders for the future.”
The Listening School encourages parents, educators, and community leaders to incorporate these storybooks into their homes and classrooms to help nurture a generation that listens with intention and heart.
