Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has said that he was on the point of leaving the music industry just before the release of his chart-topping single “With You” starring Omah Lay.
In a now-viral interview, the multiple award-winning artist admitted that he never expected the single to be the standout smash from his most recent album.
According to him, the song’s tremendous success revived his enthusiasm for music just as he was considering leaving the industry after more than a decade.
Reflecting on his path, Omah Lay observed how uncommon it is for an artist to experience such a success thus late in their career.
He regarded the timing of the hit as heavenly, noting that it occurred just as he was about to slow down.
“Some artists get that kind of song at the start of their careers, others in the middle. For me, 13–14 years in, I was even thinking of bowing out. Then God blessed me with this song. It added more life to my journey,” he said.
