Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has demanded the immediate removal of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, accusing him of disrespecting Nigeria and undermining security institutions by boycotting the 65th Independence Day celebration.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, where the official parade was held, Yusuf expressed outrage that the police chief and his personnel deliberately absented themselves from the state’s commemoration activities.

“As you can see, on this historic day marking Nigeria’s independence, the Commissioner of Police decided to pull out of the parade along with his men,” the governor declared.

He described Bakori’s conduct as “unprofessional, unethical, and partisan,” insisting that such behaviour amounted to disloyalty to the Nigerian state.

“On this note, on behalf of the government and people of Kano, I call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to immediately remove the Commissioner of Police. He was nowhere to be found with the other personnel. This is disloyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Yusuf fumed.

The governor, who is also the state’s chief security officer, said Kano remains largely peaceful but warned that security agencies should not allow themselves to be dragged into political conflicts.

“The people of Kano are peace-loving. Security agencies must face their constitutional duties and desist from partisan politics, which will only harm the state and the nation,” he added.
