The wife of the former governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has been decorated as the Patron of the Trefoil Guild Nigeria, a senior arm of the Nigeria Girl Guides Association.

The investiture, held in Abeokuta during the 4th Annual and 1st International Conference of the Guild, recognised Mrs. Amosun’s dedication to humanitarian causes and her consistent advocacy for girl-child development.

In her acceptance speech, the former First Lady described the honour as “a call to greater service,” pledging to intensify her support for initiatives that empower girls, uplift women, and strengthen the Guiding movement through her UPLIFT Development Foundation.

Mrs. Amosun said the mission of the Girl Guides—to raise bold, independent, and community-spirited women—aligned with her personal commitment to youth and women development.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Embracing the Future: Innovation and Leadership in Guiding,” she stressed that leadership must be defined by sacrifice, responsibility, and the ability to provide solutions that transform society.

She urged the Guild to design programmes that respond to modern realities such as poverty, unemployment, gender inequality, and the urgent demand for digital and financial literacy.

“I call on the Trefoil Guild and the Girl Guides Association to give particular attention to the girl-child, especially those in rural communities.

“Let us equip them with education, mentorship, and opportunities that will make them value-driven and globally competitive,” she said.

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, who also spoke at the event, commended the choice of Mrs. Amosun as Patron, describing her as “a personality of proven worth and influence.”

He encouraged the Guild to sustain its mentoring role, noting that building girls of strong character and moral values was vital for national development.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of an award for committed service to Mrs. Amosun by the Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides, Deaconess Rhoda Thomas, alongside the Country Chair, Dr. Christie Toby, and other executives of the Association.
