Dangote Cement Plc, Access Holdings Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc, were over the weekend recognized and awarded for being among the Top 100 Performing Companies in Nigeria in various categories.
Put together by the Centre For Financial Journalism – Publishers of NextMoney Magazine, the Editor – In- Chief of the Media House, Dr. Ray Echebiri, said the ceremony was not just a mere celebration, but a way to spur Nigerians and other corporate organisations to do more excellently.
“This is the first of its kind. It is a recognition of Nigeria’s high performers. It was based on objective criteria; we do not award you because we like your face. We used reports from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Security and Exchange Commission and other regulators to rate. We ranked them first by their assets, by revenue, profit, market capitalization, tax payment, number of employees. There is no other award in Nigeria like this” he maintained.
On the global award category; Access Holdings Plc emerged as the Largest Company, and Largest Company in Nigeria by Revenue. Dangote Cement Plc won the Most Valuable Company, and the Largest Company in Nigeria by number of employees. Zenith Bank Plc won the Most Profitable Company in Nigeria, while Seplat Energy emerged as the Highest Tax Paying Company in Nigeria.
For the Banking Sector category: Access Holdings Plc won the Largest Bank, and Largest Bank by Revenue in Nigeria. Zenith Bank won the Most Profitable Bank, and the Highest Tax Paying Bank in Nigeria. GTCO Bank won the Most Valuable Bank in Nigeria, while FirstHoldCo won the Largest Bank in Nigeria by number of employees.
In Insurance sector, AIICO Insurance Plc won triple, emerging as the Largest Insurance Company, Largest by Revenue and Largest Company by number of employees in Nigeria. AXA Mansard Insurance won the Most Valuable Insurance Company, and the Highest Tax Paying Company in Nigeria, while NEM Insurance Clung the Most Profitable Company in Nigeria.
For the Manufacturing sector category, Dangote Cement Plc clung the Largest Manufacturing Company, the Most Valuable, the Largest by Revenue, the Largest by Number of Employees, Most Profitable, and Highest Tax Paying Manufacturing Company in Nigeria.
In a keynote address, the Chairman Board of Trustees, Centre For Financial Journalism, Mr. Earnest Ebi, who was represented by Professor Akpan Ekpo, a member, Board of Trustees of the Centre, affirmed that the celebration was designed to honor the tenacity of businesses that had helped in shaping the foundation of Nigeria’s economy.
