American actress Diane Keaton, regarded as one of Hollywood’s most versatile stars, has died at the age of 79.

People Magazine reported Keaton’s demise, and while the cause of death was not revealed, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told CNN that they received a call for medical assistance on Sunday morning at the actress’s address.

Paramedics subsequently transferred her to a hospital, with law enforcement confirming that the person in question was Keaton.

In a career spanning over five decades, Keaton received several awards, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and two Golden Globe Awards.

Her breakthrough came when she played the role of Kay Adams, the girlfriend and eventual wife of Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972).

Paying tribute to Keaton in a message shared with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Robert De Niro said, “I am very sad to hear of Diane’s passing.

“I was very fond of her, and the news of her leaving us has taken me totally by surprise. I was not expecting her to leave us. She will be missed.  May she rest in peace.”

Candice Bergen, Keaton’s co-star in Book Club, also shared, “This is a huge loss both personally and for all of us. Diane was a true artist — tremendously gifted and uniquely talented in so many disciplines, yet also modest and wonderfully eccentric. I will miss her terribly.”

Additionally, Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, who played Keaton’s nephew in Marvin’s Room, stated, “Diane Keaton was one of a kind. Brilliant, funny, and unapologetically herself.

“A legend, an icon, and a truly kind human being. I had the honour of working with her at 18. She will be deeply missed.”
