The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned and condemned the purported endorsement of Dr. Gbenga Olawepo Hashim’s 2027 presidential ambition by a group parading itself as party stakeholders.
The group, operating under the name Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM), had on Friday in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, declared Hashim as the “preferred presidential candidate” of the Ogun PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
But in a swift reaction, the state leadership of the party dismissed the endorsement as fake, unauthorised, and misleading.
Chief Abayomi Tella, the Ogun State PDP Chairman, said in a statement that the party neither sanctioned nor recognised any endorsement of a presidential aspirant, warning that those behind the move were acting outside the bounds of the PDP’s structure.
> “We wish to make it abundantly clear that the Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party did not, and will not, endorse any presidential aspirant at this stage,” Tella declared.
“The said endorsement by the so-called Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement is entirely unknown to the leadership and structure of our party in Ogun State.”
He emphasised that the state chapter’s immediate priority is the party’s forthcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State — not the endorsement of any aspirant.
> “Our attention, as a responsible political structure, is currently directed towards strengthening our internal cohesion and preparing for the national convention. Any claim suggesting otherwise or implying our endorsement of any aspirant is false, misleading, and should be disregarded by the public,” the PDP chairman said.
Tella warned that no organ of the party — whether at the state, local government, or ward level — had given approval for such a declaration. He described the action of the GHSM as “unauthorised, unilateral, and invalid.”
The chairman cautioned party members and the general public against being misled by individuals or groups claiming to speak for the party without legitimate backing.
He urged PDP members across Ogun State to remain disciplined and focused as the party prepares for its national activities, assuring that all official decisions or communications will emanate directly from recognised leadership.
> “The Ogun State PDP hereby declares that the endorsement of Dr. Gbenga Hashim’s Presidential Agenda by any group or individuals is not recognised, approved, or supported by the state leadership of the party,” Tella concluded.
