Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has hailed the Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls’ Association (AGSOGA 1975 Set) for their contributions to educational development, describing alumni bodies as crucial partners in nation-building.

Abiodun, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, spoke at the association’s 50th anniversary dinner held at Daktad Hotel, Abeokuta.

He commended the old students for their investments in mentoring, infrastructure upgrade and community service, particularly the commissioning of a newly furnished library at the school.

Abiodun said government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of providing infrastructure, adding that collaborations with alumni bodies remain strategic in improving learning standards across public schools.

“Your support to your alma mater is a shining example of gratitude turned into legacy,” he said.
“Such initiatives bridge learning gaps and inspire the next generation. True greatness is measured not by what we take from society but what we give back.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering private organisations and community groups to improve education, empower women and expand youth opportunities in the state.

Also speaking, the President of AGGSOGA ’75 Set, Mrs Folasade Alatise-Adesoye, represented by the Vice-President, Mrs Kehinde Hamed-Bada, said the golden jubilee symbolised renewed dedication to youth empowerment and academic excellence.

“This celebration is not just about looking back; it is about giving back,” she said.
“We are proud to hand over a modernised library where future generations of Abeokuta girls will find knowledge and inspiration.”

She urged younger alumni to preserve the school’s legacy of discipline, moral values and academic excellence.

Alatise-Adesoye praised the Abiodun administration for supporting alumni initiatives and appealed for sustained collaboration to ensure public schools remain strong pillars of development.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of an award to Governor Abiodun by the Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, in recognition of the government’s investments in education infrastructure.
