Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving major maritime and security infrastructure projects in Ogun State, describing them as transformative initiatives that will boost the economy and strengthen national security.

Daniel, who chairs the Senate Committee on Navy, spoke on Sunday in Abigi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, during the Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Mid-term Community Assessment and Review Tour.

He hailed the President for granting approval for a naval base and dockyard at Ode-Omi as well as advancing efforts to resuscitate the Olokola Deep Seaport — a project long regarded as key to unlocking the state’s marine and industrial capacity.

“The Navy was not in a hurry to begin work here. This development is a product of deliberate strategic efforts and the President’s support,” Daniel said.

According to the lawmaker, the naval base will unfold in phases, beginning with accommodation for senior and junior naval personnel, administrative blocks, perimeter fencing and security architecture, followed later by a naval secondary school and hospital.

Daniel noted that the development aligns with previous industrial plans initiated during his tenure as governor, including the establishment of the Gateway Industrial and Petro-Gas Institute (GIPI) meant to train manpower for a now-suspended refinery project.

He disclosed plans to revive GIPI with federal support — citing the recent takeover of the Tai Solarin University of Education by the Federal Government as an example of intervention where state capacity falls short.

The former governor also praised the routing of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway through Ogun Waterside, saying the corridor and maritime infrastructure will open the region to investment, jobs and tourism.

He maintained that the people of Ogun are grateful for the initiative and will repay the President at the polls.

“The people of Ogun will reciprocate this kind gesture with massive votes in the 2027 general election,” Daniel said.

“President Tinubu means well for Nigeria, and well-meaning citizens should support his administration.”

Daniel added that the naval presence would significantly enhance security in the area and spur local commerce.

He urged residents to remain patient and supportive as the Federal Government progresses with the projects, assuring that adequate funding had been earmarked for their execution.
