The family of actress Regina Daniels from Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State has given her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, a 48 hours ultimatum to accept the bride price he paid on her.

The family gave the ultimatum on Wednesday in an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of the community in Ogwashi-Uku.

The statement said in part: “With due respect to your office and person, we must express deep disappointment over your recent actions concerning our sister and her family.

“As a people, we value peace, fairness, and respect for our cultural traditions.”

The letter said according to the tradition of Ogwashi-Uku, marriage is not forced and if a woman chooses to leave her husband, the family must return the bride price.

It said the Daniels’ family had tried several times to do this, but Nwoko refused to accept it.

The family said if he continues to reject the bride price, “the bride price would be deposited at Ikeleke Quarter in Ogwashi-Uku”, which would mean the marriage has ended according to their customs.

The family also condemned the alleged arrest and intimidation of Daniels’s relatives, adding that it was “oppressive and an affront to our people and long-standing traditions”.

The letter was shared online by Daniels’s elder brother, Sweezzy, and an actor, Stanley Ontop.
