MTN Nigeria has once again demonstrated its deep connection with communities by unveiling Oyato, a special value proposition designed exclusively for customers in the western region of the country.
The launch of the programme was held at the Bodija Market in Ibadan, Oyo State and Tarmac GSM market in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
It drew crowds eager to witness a campaign that blends technology, affordability, and Yoruba cultural pride.
According to Stella Nwosisi, Regional General Manager for West MTN Nigeria, the Oyato initiative is a deliberate attempt to align with the lifestyles of people in the West.
Nwosisi said: “We studied the lifestyle and consumption patterns of the people in the region and discovered that they deserve something tailored and unique.
“Oyato has come to stay because it is dedicated to the people of the West; it’s a special first-ever from MTN.”
The name Oyato meaning “different” or “special” in Yoruba, captures the essence of the campaign, showcasing MTN’s recognition of the rich cultural identity of the region.
By tying the offering to a phrase familiar in everyday Yoruba parlance, the brand reinforces a sense of belonging and cultural pride while delivering value to its subscribers.
Subscribers can choose from two bundle options: the N400 package, which offers 600MB of data and seven minutes of talk time for two days, or the N800 package, which comes with 1200MB of data and 15 minutes of talk time for three days.
Though designed specifically for seven western states: Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Osun, and Edo, the bundles remain valid when subscribers travel outside these areas.
The launch events in Ogun and Oyo States reflected MTN’s community-centric approach, combining celebration with social impact.
Free medical services were provided on-site, enabling attendees to check their blood pressure, blood sugar, and undergo other health screenings.
This gesture, Nwosisi noted, was MTN’s way of ensuring that improved connectivity also walked hand-in-hand with improved wellbeing.
To further excite the crowd, MTN rewarded subscribers who signed up for the Oyato bundles with free food items such as noodles, rice, and groundnut oil.
The event also featured raffles where participants walked away with special prizes.
Oginni Johnson, who subscribed to the N400 bundle and won a gift during the raffle, said: “I never saw it coming, but I decided to try my luck and I won.
“It’s a double gain for me.”
MTN’s Oyato campaign introduces affordable data and voice packages while celebrating Yoruba heritage and strengthening connections with local communities.
The initiative highlights MTN’s role as both a telecoms provider and a lifestyle partner that understands the needs and values of its subscribers.
