Wike, Fayose Mock PDP After Expulsion, Describe Ibadan Convention As “Detty December In November”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, have dismissed their expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, describing the party’s national convention in Ibadan as nothing more than a drunken social outing.

Wike and Fayose’s reaction was conveyed on Saturday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, who mocked the delegates, saying they travelled to Ibadan to begin their “Detty December” celebrations ahead of schedule.

“They went to Ibadan to start their own Detty December in November,” Olayinka said in a statement.

“When people decide to start their Dirty December early, one cannot take whatever comes out of their mouths seriously. They gathered basically to enjoy themselves and, after drinking, they were free to say anything.”

The PDP convention, held despite multiple court orders directing its suspension, unanimously expelled Wike, Fayose, factional national chairman Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others for alleged anti-party activities.

The motion for the expulsion was moved by founding member Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The decision has deepened internal tensions within the opposition party, already battling leadership disputes that have resulted in conflicting court rulings.

On Friday, another court order had been issued directing the Damagum-led leadership to suspend the Ibadan convention to prevent further crisis.

Several senior PDP figures, including a former Senate President, had also urged restraint, warning that disregarding the court orders could trigger a complete implosion of the party.

The expulsion marks another chapter in the long-running feud between Wike and the PDP establishment, a conflict that intensified after the 2023 general elections and his appointment as FCT Minister in President Bola Tinubu’s APC government.
