The 20th coronation anniversary of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, on Monday drew fresh tributes as prominent Egba chief, Chief Olalekan Shoyinka, described the monarch’s reign as “two decades of unmatched stability, cultural revival, and purposeful leadership.”
In a statement made available to PLATFORM TIMES on Tuesday, Shoyinka—who holds the traditional title of Gbadegesin of Ijemo—praised the monarch for what he called “a historic tenure that has strengthened institutions and advanced the unity of the Egba nation.”
According to him, Oba Gbadebo’s 20 years on the throne have not only reinforced Egbaland’s position as “the cradle of civilization in West Africa” but have also deepened communal harmony across Abeokuta and its affiliated towns.
“Kabiyesi has demonstrated exceptional wisdom, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of our people,” Shoyinka said.
“His firm but inclusive leadership has renewed confidence across our communities and solidified inter-clan cooperation in Egbaland.”
The chief commended the monarch’s efforts in promoting peace, cultural preservation, and socio-economic stability, noting that Oba Gbadebo’s reign had brought “renewed vigor to Egba heritage and governance.”
Shoyinka also extended appreciation to all Egba Chiefs for what he called their “loyalty and steadfast support” to the Alake throughout the 20-year period.
He singled out High Chief Clement Oluyinka Kufile, the Aro Egba and Oluwo of Ijemo, describing him as “a pillar whose unwavering support continues to bolster Kabiyesi’s vision for a united and prosperous Egba nation.”
“Their collective contributions epitomize the spirit of unity and progress that has defined this era of royal excellence,” he added.
As activities marking the anniversary continue in Abeokuta, Shoyinka prayed for the monarch’s long life and sustained strength.
“I pray that the Almighty grants Kabiyesi many more years of sound health, divine wisdom, and strength to continue leading Egbaland toward peace and greater accomplishments,” he wrote.
The Alake, who ascended the throne in 2005, remains one of the most influential traditional rulers in Ogun State and a central figure in Egba cultural affairs.
