The Lagos State House of Assembly has formally acknowledged an executive communication from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu seeking a date to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill, which proposes a staggering ₦4.237 trillion budget for the fiscal year.
The letter, read at plenary by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, signalled the commencement of legislative work on what will become the state’s next financial plan.
A lawmaker who reviewed the proposal described it as “a defining budget for Lagos’ infrastructure and social expansion,” adding that the Assembly would “scrutinise every detail to ensure value for Lagosians.”
In a separate development, the Assembly threw out the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu as General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPAA), faulting her continued stay in office without legislative confirmation.
Presenting the report of a 12-member Ad Hoc Screening Committee, its chairman, Mojeed Fatai, said Mrs. Adelabu had occupied the office since 2021 in violation of due process.
“For over four years, she functioned without the Assembly’s approval. That contravenes the law guiding appointments into such strategic positions,” Fatai told the chamber.
Following deliberations, the House declared her nomination null and void, referencing Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law.
However, lawmakers confirmed two other nominees:
Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat as Executive Secretary, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission.
Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo as Chairman, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).
Speaker Mudashiru Obasa applauded the committee, noting that Lagosians deserve only individuals who have undergone transparent and credible screening.
“This House will always uphold due process. Only those who meet the standards required to serve Lagos residents will be cleared,” Obasa said.
With the Governor’s communication now before lawmakers, the Assembly is expected to announce a date for the formal budget presentation in the coming days.
