El-Rufai Declares Nigerians “Tired of APC, PDP”, Says 230m Voters Will Shock 25 Governors In 2027

Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on Wednesday declared that mass defections by governors into the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not stop what he described as an impending nationwide revolt by voters in 2027.

Speaking in Jos at the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Contact and Mobilisation Office, el-Rufai said Nigerians were tired of both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that ordinary citizens—not governors—would determine the direction of the next general elections.

He insisted that despite high-profile defections from the PDP to the APC, “Nigerians themselves are defecting to ADC,” adding that the 2027 polls would shock entrenched political structures.

“Governors from PDP are defecting to APC, but Nigerians are defecting to ADC. By God’s grace, 230 million Nigerians will defeat 25 governors,” he said.

El-Rufai, who narrated his long personal ties with the Plateau capital, lamented the deterioration of peace and unity in the state, saying leadership failure had robbed Plateau of its age-long reputation as a tourism haven.

“Forty years ago, I was visiting Plateau every week because my fiancée served here in Jos. After marriage, we still came regularly,” he recalled.

“But since then, things have gone in the wrong direction. I pray God gives us leaders who will unite people across ethnic and religious lines.”

The former governor, now a major figure in the ADC, boasted that the party was the most youth-friendly political platform in the country, reserving 40% of leadership positions for young people and 35% for women.

According to him, Nigeria’s future required “good candidates, good policies and a united political family,” tasks he urged ADC members to prioritise as the election season approaches.

“What is ahead of us is to unite and bring all party members together. ADC is the only party that gives real space to youths and women. Nigerians have decided that in 2027, they will vote for ADC,” he said.

Jamilu Datti, the Plateau State coordinator of the ADC’s mobilisation office, also charged young Nigerians to rally behind the party, saying the 2027 election would be a referendum on failed governance and a chance to “reset the country.”

PLATFORM TIMES reports that el-Rufai’s remarks come amid rising political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with several governors switching parties and opposition leaders forming new alliances.
