Former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Federal Government to immediately investigate the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, citing a fresh wave of mass kidnappings and bandit attacks.

In a statement made available on Wednesday via his verified X account, Kwankwaso condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, which occurred early on Monday after gunmen stormed the school on motorcycles and exchanged fire with security agents.

He also flagged the killing of Brigadier Gen. Musa Uba in Borno State, calling the incident a “dark mark” in the country’s counter-terrorism fight and demanding a full probe into security and intelligence failures.

Kwankwaso also lamented the mass kidnappings in Zamfara state, describing it as “truly heartbreaking,” urging authorities to rescue the abducted victims swiftly.

He noted that the recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa LGAs of Kano state also require urgent attention.

He praised the Kano state government for donating vehicles to security agencies but insisted that more needs to be done.

He stated, “These areas have seen repeated violence; in one recent incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing from Katsina State.

“In another raid, two nursing mothers were kidnapped from the Faruruwa community in Shanono, heightening fear among residents.

“These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” Kwankwaso said, urging a renewed and robust federal response.

He called on the government to reinvigorate the armed forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force to fulfil their responsibility of protecting citizens and restoring national confidence.

On Monday, armed bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, abducted at least 25 students and killed the Vice Principal.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that 25 students were abducted from the school.
