As part of the plans of the Federal Government to empower young Nigerians with technical skills that will drive the nation’s transition to cleaner and more affordable energy, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives has kicked off an intensive training on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The programme, held at Thames Hotel, Jericho, brought together senior government officials, industry leaders in the automotive and energy sectors, and enthusiastic young participants eager to tap into emerging opportunities in the clean energy economy.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, Dr. Titilope Ayoka Gbadamosi, said the initiative underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to youth productivity, innovation, and national development.
She noted that the global shift toward cleaner energy requires skilled young Nigerians who can compete and lead in modern automotive technologies.
“This training is more than a workshop. It is the transfer of knowledge that will create jobs, expand technical enterprises, and position you as major players in Nigeria’s new energy economy,” she said.
The training was organised in partnership with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and featured several dignitaries who commended the Federal Government’s efforts and encouraged youths to maximize the opportunity.
Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Saheed Fijabi, praised the initiative and urged the participants to see the CNG sector as a “golden pathway to relevance in the new economy.”
He noted that the world is moving toward energy alternatives that are cheaper and environmentally friendly. “What you are learning today can become the skill that feeds you, builds your business, and shapes your future,” he told the trainees.
The Director General of NADDC, Otunba Joseph Osanipin, represented by Mrs. Onireti Joke, Head of the Industrial Infrastructure Department, reaffirmed NADDC’s continuous support for youth empowerment through automotive innovation.
She described CNG conversion skills as essential to the country’s transport transformation, adding, “Nigeria needs young technicians who can drive this shift. You are the ones who will make this transition possible.”
Mr. Daro Imuokhadere, Head of Team at Portland Gas Limited, also encouraged the participants, stressing that mastery of CNG technology places them at an advantage in a rapidly growing industry.
“The world is moving toward gas-powered mobility, and those who gain these skills early will lead the market,” he said.
Dr. Gbadamosi emphasised that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda remained focused on equipping youths with practical, future-ready skills.
She added that Ibadan’s inclusion in the national CNG training rollout reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to opportunities across Nigeria.
