Balogun Lai Labode, known for his work in the cultural and fashion sectors, has been appointed the new Aare Agba of Egbaland by the Alake of Egbaland, following formal approval from the state chieftaincy authorities.
Labode becomes the youngest person to hold the title, a development that comes at a time when questions around youth engagement and representation continue to shape public discourse in the region.
Over the years, he has been involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting young people, particularly in the creative, financial and technology sectors. His approach, which places young people at the centre of community participation, has contributed to a perception of him as a figure accessible to the youth.

Labode is the founder of CashToken Rewards Africa, a reward-technology company that offers cash incentives to consumers while working with businesses across Nigeria. The company’s model has been cited in business reports as an example of emerging reward systems in the country’s digital economy.
In the creative sector, his role as President of the Confederation of African Fashion (CAFA) places him within ongoing discussions around the goal of building a $500B African fashion economy. Through initiatives such as Afroliganza, he has been involved in projects that highlight cultural identity and creative exchange across different regions.
As Aare Agba, Labode has indicated plans to expand cultural activities in Ogun State, including festivals, designer residencies and youth-focused creative programmes. Discussions are expected to continue on how these proposals will be implemented and what they could mean for cultural development in Egbaland.
