Mourners on Friday gathered in Bauchi to pay their final respects to renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.

The Bauchi State Government declared the day a work-free day to allow residents to attend the funeral rites.

NAN reports that followers, students and Muslim faithful from within and outside the state trooped into the city for the burial, prompting heavy security deployment to manage the crowd and ensure free traffic flow.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Maulud Dahiru Bauchi said the funeral prayer would hold by 3 pm, in line with the scholar’s written instructions.

He added that the Grand Imam of Nigeria, Sheikh Sharif Saleh, would lead the prayer.

“The funeral is expected to attract an array of high-profile dignitaries from across the country, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors, emirs and chiefs.

“The large turnout reflects the profound impact the late scholar had on religious life and moral guidance across the region,” he said.
