Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has visited former Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, in Alor, Anambra State, to commiserate with him over the recent attack on his convoy.
Obi, who said he was abroad when the incident occurred, noted that he returned to the country and went straight to visit Ngige to express sympathy and thank God for sparing his life.
PUNCH Online had reported that the attack on Ngige’s convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area on Thursday led to the death of an unidentified woman, while a police orderly sustained injuries.
In a post via his X handle on Friday, Obi described the incident as painful and unacceptable, noting that it was another reminder of the rising insecurity and needless bloodshed across the country.
He called for more coordinated and effective security measures at all levels of government, as well as active cooperation from citizens, to curb the increasing wave of violence.
“This unfortunate incident reinforces the urgent need for more coordinated and effective security measures by the government at all levels, and with the active cooperation of citizens, to reverse the rising tide of insecurity in our country. No Nigerian should live in fear, and no one should lose their life in such senseless circumstances,” he said.
Obi also condoled with the family of the woman who was killed, saying, “My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman who lost her life. We must remain committed to building a Nigeria where the sanctity of human life is upheld and where every citizen can move freely and safely.”
