The Nigerian Army said it foiled a major terrorist assault on Chibok communities, Borno State, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to a post by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Saturday, over 300 terrorists reportedly launched the attack at around 2:50 a.m., but troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade decisively repelled the offensive.

“The soldiers, already on high alert, detected the movement early, quickly assumed battle positions, and engaged the attackers from multiple fronts.

“The fierce firefight lasted more than two hours, preventing the terrorists from breaching the security of the towns.

“As daylight broke, the assailants retreated in disarray toward the Azir axis and into the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Main Supply Route between Damboa and Biu.

“The 25 Brigade occupied pre-designated ambush positions near Azir Bridge, guided by a Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, to intercept the fleeing terrorists,” the post read.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI deployed a Super Tucano aircraft to support ground forces.

Anele said the terrorists were disrupted during their withdrawal, and the Army reported no losses of personnel or equipment, highlighting the professionalism and readiness of the troops.

“Operations in and around Chibok are ongoing as the Nigerian Army continues efforts to track and neutralise escaping militants.

“Footage of the retreating terrorists is being analyzed for further operational planning,” the post added.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
