The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Bello M. Sani, on Monday paid a condolence visit to the Nigeria Immigration Service Command in Birnin Kebbi following the killing of three Immigration officers in last week’s suspected Lakurawa terror attack in Bakin Ruwa.
Arriving at the command headquarters at about 12:50 p.m., the CP and members of his management team met with the Acting Comptroller, DCO M.I. Chinoko, to commiserate with the officers over what he described as “a painful loss to the entire security family.”
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants the departed officers eternal rest and gives their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” CP Sani said during the visit.
He stressed that the tragedy was not an Immigration affair alone but a collective blow to all security agencies in the state.
“An injury to one is an injury to all. What affects the Immigration Service affects the Police, because we are one team committed to protecting Kebbi State,” he added.
The CP reaffirmed the joint resolve of security agencies to intensify efforts against criminal elements.
“Our commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our people remains unwavering,” he said.
Responding, Acting Comptroller Chinoko expressed gratitude for the show of solidarity, noting that the Police boss had demonstrated “leadership by example.”
“Your visit at this difficult time speaks volumes. We appreciate your support and your dedication to strengthening synergy among security agencies in Kebbi State,” Chinoko said.
The visit ended with special prayers led by the Command’s Chief Imam, ASP Suleiman Baffa, for the repose of the slain officers.
On Saturday, the NIS confirmed the killing of three of its officers by gunmen suspected to be Lukarawa terrorists in Kebbi State.
The PUNCH gathered that the terrorists reportedly killed the officers at a checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, along the Maje border in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
Residents of the area disclosed that the armed men stormed the immigration checkpoint and opened fire on the officers on duty, leaving three of them dead on the spot.
