The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, presented the one-month review on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, on Wednesday at the command headquarters in Katsina.

According to him, the command apprehended 63 suspects across five major crime categories, including armed robbery, rape/unnatural offences, possession of illicit drugs, homicide/murder, and possession of counterfeit currency.

“In our efforts to ensure a safer Katsina State, we have recorded significant successes in our crime-fighting endeavours, as 123 cases were reported.

“Here are five major crimes we have tackled, along with the number of suspects arrested: armed robbery: 22 suspects arrested, culpable homicide/murder: seven suspects arrested, being in possession of counterfeit currency: four suspects, rape/unnatural offence: 20 suspects arrested, being in possession of illicit drugs: 10 suspects arrested.

“Out of these cases reported, 108 have been charged to court, as 15 cases are currently under investigation, within the period under review.

“In the course of our operations, we have succeeded in recovering the following exhibits, three AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, 183 rounds of live ammunition, four motor vehicles (1 Toyota Corolla, 2 golf vehicles, and 1 Peugeot), 32 suspected rustled animals comprising 23 cows, 9 sheep, etc.

“131 illicit drugs (212,100 pieces of Exol tablets, 3,720 tramadol tablets, 67 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis), 50 meters of vandalised high tension cables, among other exhibits,” he said.

Sadiq added that despite the achievements, more work remains to be done.

“We pledge to redouble our efforts and commit to building on these successes to make Katsina State an even safer place for all.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to protect and serve the community, and we call on all stakeholders to join us in this fight against crime.

“We wish to express our gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering support and guidance, which has been instrumental in our successes,” he said.

He also thanked the state government for its continued cooperation, saying its support had strengthened the command’s capacity to combat crime across the state.

Sadiq thanked members of the public for their assistance and urged them to continue providing useful information that would help prevent and solve crimes.
