Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has congratulated retired Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on his appointment as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, expressing strong confidence in his competence to confront the country’s security challenges.

In a congratulatory message issued through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris, the governor described General Musa as “a thoroughbred professional whose training, experience and patriotism stand him out for the task ahead.”

Governor Idris said General Musa’s track record, particularly his role in preventing armed bandits from gaining a foothold in Kebbi State, made him optimistic about the positive impact he would bring to national defence.

“General Musa has consistently supported our security agencies with guidance, encouragement, and moral backing.

“His advice strengthened our resolve to continue providing logistics and financial support to security operatives, which has yielded great success in our fight against armed banditry,” the governor noted.

He prayed for God’s guidance for the new minister and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the National Assembly, to give General Musa the necessary backing to succeed.

“The government and people of Kebbi State will continue to pray for his success and for the eventual defeat of banditry across Nigeria,” the statement added.

General Musa, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025, is a recipient of the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering (2012).

His nomination as Minister of Defence was confirmed by the Senate on December 3, 2025.
