The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore and six other aspirants from contesting in the party’s upcoming Osun State governorship primary.

The APC screening committee announced that the disqualified candidates failed to meet the requirement of presenting evidence of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in the state, as mandated by Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

Other aspirants affected by the disqualification include former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.

Meanwhile, the committee cleared two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, to contest the primary.

Omisore, who represented Osun East in the Senate from 2003 to 2011, had officially declared his intention to run for governor in the 2026 elections under the APC banner.

In a statement released in October, he said his campaign would be guided by the theme, “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams.”

“I believe strongly that together, we can restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for every son and daughter of Osun,” Omisore said, calling on party members and supporters to join his Osun Rescue Mission 2026.

Omisore had previously contested for the governorship but was unsuccessful, making this his latest attempt to reclaim political leadership in the state.
