Two people lost their lives after a bus driving against traffic rammed into a truck along the Ososa section of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Sunday from a telephone conversation with the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the accident occurred on Saturday.

Akinbiyi noted that 21 people were involved in the crash, which featured a yellow Toyota Hiace bus with number plate BDG 274YG and a blue Benz truck with number plate AKD 115YL.

The TRACE spokesperson added that an unspecified number of persons also sustained injuries.

He said, “A ghastly fatal crash occurred at Ososa slope inbound to Sagamu from Ijebu-Ode on the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.

“According to an eyewitness account, the Toyota bus drove against traffic and had a head-on collision with the Benz truck.

“21 adults were involved, with two deaths recorded.”

Akinbiyi stated that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital morgue.

“The two presumed dead bodies and injured victims were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital before our arrival.

“The accident vehicles were towed away from the road and the roadside and taken to the Nigeria Police Force, Obalende Division, Ijebu-Ode,” he concluded.

The Ososa section of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway has become notorious for frequent road crashes.

PUNCH Metro reported on November 20 that eight bodies were recovered from the Ososa River along the same expressway after a vehicle plunged into the water.

Akinbiyi had said that the body of the vehicle’s driver was yet to be found at the time of the incident.

He attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control.
