Former Anambra State Governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been arrested and is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

The development was confirmed Wednesday night in a statement signed by Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe, who dismissed online rumours that the ex-governor had been kidnapped.

“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details will follow,” the statement read.

Ngige, a longtime figure in Nigerian politics, had recently made headlines after his convoy came under attack by armed assailants in Anambra State. He was reportedly not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.

Details surrounding the reason for Ngige’s arrest remain scarce, but sources suggest the EFCC is investigating alleged financial irregularities during his tenure in public office.

This latest development adds to the growing list of high-profile political figures in Nigeria currently under scrutiny for alleged financial misconduct, highlighting ongoing efforts by anti-graft agencies to tackle corruption at the highest levels.

The EFCC is yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest. Platform Times will provide updates as more information emerges.
