Another Accord Party Governorship Candidate Emerges In Osun

A fresh crisis has hit the Accord Party in Osun State as another faction on Sunday produced a separate governorship candidate ahead of the 2026 election.

The factional primary, held in Osogbo, resulted in the emergence of Mr Clement Bamigbola as the party’s candidate, barely four days after Governor Ademola Adeleke was announced as the Accord Party’s flagbearer in a parallel exercise.

Adeleke had emerged earlier in the week from a primary conducted under the leadership of Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, shortly after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.

However, the process was immediately rejected by a faction of the party, which questioned Mgbudem’s legitimacy as the national chairman of the Accord Party.

Insisting that the earlier primary was illegal, the dissenting group organised a fresh exercise on Sunday at Regina Suite, Osogbo, where about 300 delegates drawn from across Osun State reportedly converged.

The delegates, according to organisers, adopted a voice vote system, which culminated in the emergence of Bamigbola as the faction’s choice for the governorship ticket.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Primary Committee, Hon. Olufemi Ogundare, declared Bamigbola the duly elected candidate of the party for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The latest development deepens the leadership and legitimacy crisis within the Accord Party in Osun, raising questions over which faction will be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the polls.
