In a bold push to prepare Nigerian children for global opportunities, education experts have urged parents and schools to intensify efforts in teaching foreign languages and promoting cultural diversity.
The call came during a continental exhibition held at Great Standard Montessori Model School in Abeokuta, Ogun State, which showcased arts, crafts, and presentations from countries across different continents.
Experts noted that early and sustained exposure to global cultures equips children with skills for an interconnected world while fostering social cohesion.
The proprietress of the school, Mrs. Nofisat Akingbade, said the initiative is designed to take pupils beyond the conventional classroom experience.
“The exhibition has become a yearly tradition at our school. It exposes children to multiple cultures and teaches tolerance and respect,” Mrs. Akingbade said.
“We have different languages, cultures, and meals. We must respect people for who they truly are.”
She also called on the government to strengthen cultural and global awareness programmes in basic education, stressing the importance of full implementation and effective supervision.
Mr. Olusoji Ajao, CEO of Afrocentric Masterclass and one of the external graders, described the exhibition as a “game-changing approach” to modern learning.
He said the programme allows children to gain practical, immersive knowledge far beyond memorisation.
Ajao highlighted the importance of early foreign language acquisition, particularly Mandarin and French. “Some pupils were already speaking Chinese.
The world is moving fast, and knowing such languages gives them a competitive edge. Mandarin is a language of the future,” he said, noting China’s growing influence on the global stage.
He further urged schools to adopt project-based and experiential learning, emphasising that audiovisual methods help children internalise knowledge and become more open and adaptable.
The exhibition attracted parents, educators, and students from across the region, reflecting a growing commitment to equipping Nigerian children with global skills while nurturing respect for cultural diversity.
