The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 28-year-old man, Olapade Ifeoluwa, on the allegation of raping a seven-year-old girl.
Ekiti Amotekun Corps Head of Communications, Adeleye Adewale, in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, said that the suspect was nabbed at Ilawe Ekiti by operatives in the Ekiti Southwest Local Government for alleged involvement in the rape of the seven-year-old minor.
He stated, “Upon interrogation by the arresting officers of the Ekiti Southwest Local Government Command, the suspect confessed to the crime committed.
“He said that the minor was induced with watching a film and lured to his apartment, where he precipitously had carnal knowledge of her. He later ascribed his action to devil’s work after his apprehension.
“The father of the minor explained the ordeal, noting that her daughter’s cry during the incident at Ujana Street in Ilawe Ekiti aided her rescue, through the crowd-pulling.”
Adewale added that “the suspect and victim have been brought to Ekiti State Amotekun Headquarters Command, Ado Ekiti for further investigation and necessary action.”
PUNCH Online reported a similar incident on September 12. Operatives of the corps foiled the alleged plan of a 21-year-old man, Ahmed Abdulai, to rape a 13-year-old girl at Are Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti state.
According to the arresting officers, the suspect allegedly lured the girl to the bush with the intent to have carnal knowledge of her, but could not succeed owing to the arrival of the officers, who flashed torchlights on him while he was attempting to rape her.
The corps said the suspect was handed over to the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria Police, Ekiti State Command, for further investigation.
