The Federal Government has commenced construction of the N47 billion Jakara–Wuju–Wuju road and sewage project in Kano metropolis.

It was stated that the project will traverse Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala, and Fagge Local Government Areas and is aimed at controlling erosion and boosting economic activities upon completion.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, said on Tuesday that the federal government took over the project at the request of the Kano State Government.

He noted that the state government had already completed 850 metres of the work, while the federal government would fund the remaining 6.7 kilometres.

According to Ata, the state government would bear the cost of compensating affected property owners.

He commended former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso for initiating the project in 2013 and thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the funds.

“The initiative is a major intervention that underscores the federal government’s commitment to Kano State,” Ata said.
