Sujimoto Group has proposed a ₦20 trillion fortified border and agro-development plan to tackle terrorism, banditry and cross-border crime in Nigeria

The initiative combines fortified barriers and technology-driven surveillance along porous borders with large-scale agricultural and rural development projects aimed at addressing the economic roots of insecurity. The company said insecurity has persisted despite heavy defence spending, noting that at least 24,816 Nigerians were killed between 2019 and 2024, according to a 2024 Global Rights report.

Sujimoto argued that Nigeria’s challenge lies in weak strategy rather than limited resources, stressing the need to link security with economic development. The plan would initially cover about 2,900 kilometres along the Niger and Cameroon borders and include agro-industrial zones to create jobs and stabilise border communities.

The firm urged the Federal Government to consider the proposal as a public-private partnership and a long-term national investment.
