The Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, says that President Bola Tinubu is making a conscious investment in the future of young people, communities, and the nation at large.

Tijani spoke on Friday while declaring open a three-day end-of-the-year basketball competition for youths tagged “Tech meets Basketball.”

The basketball tournament, organised by the Bosun Tijani Foundation, is being held at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

Set within the spirit of the festive season, the minister said the initiative is designed to create a joyful and inclusive space where young people can come together, express themselves freely, build confidence, and form lasting connections through shared experiences, teamwork, and healthy competition.

He explained, “When young people are supported in environments like this, they reveal their potential not only as athletes, but as leaders and contributors to society.”

Tijani said that the core of the sporting initiative reflects the kind of society Nigeria must continue to build, one where opportunities for growth, belonging, and self-discovery are accessible to young people regardless of their background.

He added, “During this festive period, the tournament serves as a reminder that community, creativity, and positive outlets matter just as much as competition.

“By investing in platforms that uplift young people in Ogun State and beyond, we are making a conscious investment in the future of our communities and our nation just as it is being championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The minister further disclosed that the Federal Government remains committed to efforts and strategic innovations that would open doors of opportunities to empower the youth and give them the wings to aid the nation’s growth and development.

Speaking at the event, the governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, urged private individuals, corporate organisations, and foundations to collaborate with the government to enhance youth development through investments and support for sports.

Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Sports, Wasiu Isiaka, said that since the last National Sports Festival hosted by the state earlier this year, Ogun has continued to experience a surge in sports programmes and competitions.

He stressed the need for partnerships to grow sports, create more environments for young people to discover their talents in sports and other innovations.

Abiodun hailed the minister for his thoughtfulness and commitment to empowering youths, describing such intervention as vital to building a viable nation.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, recently reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians through transformative programmes that promote education, job creation, and innovation.

Speaking as guest speaker at the APC 2025 North West Youth Rally in Dutse, Idris emphasised that Tinubu has shown uncommon trust in youths by giving them real responsibilities and opportunities to lead.

The minister highlighted some of the administration’s major youth-focused achievements, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has so far disbursed N116 billion to over 620,000 students, and the 3MTT Programme, which has attracted nearly two million applicants in the drive to create three million digital and technical jobs nationwide.

Other initiatives include the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, which has certified one million Nigerians in 25 different trades.
