Makinde Dumped Tinubu After Ministerial Slot Was Denied – Wike’s aide

A media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Mr Lere Olayinka, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, withdrew support for President Bola Tinubu after his ministerial nominee was rejected.

Olayinka made the claim on Tuesday while reacting to Makinde’s recent declaration that he would not support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The Oyo State governor had, during a media interaction with selected journalists in Ibadan, accused Wike of working to destabilise the Peoples Democratic Party in favour of Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Makinde also hinted that he might contest against the President in the next general election.
Reacting in a Facebook post, Olayinka dismissed Makinde’s position, insisting that the governor’s stance was driven by personal political interests rather than principle.

He claimed that Makinde would still be backing Tinubu if his preferred nominee had been appointed as minister.

“If Governor Seyi Makinde’s nominee for Oyo State ministerial position was accepted by President Tinubu, he would still be clapping for the President today,” Olayinka wrote.

In a follow-up post, the Wike aide accused the governor of lacking political loyalty, alleging that Makinde’s history showed repeated party defections whenever his personal ambitions were threatened.

Olayinka listed Makinde’s past political movements, claiming the governor defected from the PDP to the ANPP in 2007 after failing to secure a senatorial ticket and later moved to the SDP in 2015 after losing the PDP governorship ticket.

He added that Makinde only remained in the PDP in 2019 because he secured the party’s governorship ticket, insisting that he would have defected otherwise.

“In 2023, he joined the PDP G5 governors to ensure his re-election. After 2027, he will surely be in another party,” Olayinka said.

The FCT minister’s aide further alleged that Makinde worked against the election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2022 to ensure he remained the only PDP governor in the South-West.

Describing Makinde as “Ibadan Gomina General,” Olayinka claimed the governor’s politics was driven solely by self-interest and named several politicians he alleged had fallen out with Makinde.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government had not officially responded to Olayinka’s claims.

The public exchange has further exposed deepening cracks within the PDP, particularly among leaders previously aligned under the G5 bloc ahead of the 2023 elections.
