Kwankwasiyya Movement Urges Kwankwaso, Abba Yusuf To Lead Defection To APC

Supporters of Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), under the umbrella of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, have reportedly urged their leader and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to lead them into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The call came during a meeting of party leaders, councillors, and key stakeholders in Rogo Local Government Area, chaired by Jibril Falgore, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly. Abdullahi Rogo, Director-General of the Protocol Directorate at the Kano State Government House, spoke on behalf of the movement.

In a video circulated on Sunday in Hausa, Rogo said the group’s decision was aimed at advancing both the development of Kano State and Kwankwaso’s presidential ambitions.

“During the meeting, we unanimously agreed to appeal to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to lead us in defecting to the APC,” Rogo said.

“We strongly believe that his aspiration to become Nigeria’s president stands a better chance of being realized within the APC.”

He added that the move would not undermine the Kwankwasiyya Movement, stressing that members remain loyal to the movement while exploring avenues to enhance their political influence.

Kwankwaso, a former APC member who later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before founding the NNPP in 2022, had in May criticized politicians who defected after acquiring power.

Nevertheless, his supporters have historically followed him across party lines.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement’s appeal signals a potential realignment of political forces in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising questions about the future of the NNPP in the state.
