The Ogun State Government has postponed the unveiling of the Laderin Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station and the Sagamu–Ayepe Road, earlier scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026.
The postponement was confirmed in an official notice issued by the state government on Friday, shortly after invitations had been circulated for the unveiling ceremony.
The initial invitation, signed on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, stated that Governor Dapo Abiodun would commission the train station at 10:30 a.m. in Laderin, Abeokuta, before proceeding to commission the Sagamu–Ayepe Road at 2:00 p.m. in Sagamu Local Government Area.
However, in a subsequent notice, the government announced the cancellation of the programme.
“This is to formally inform the general public that the commissioning of the Laderin Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station and the Sagamu–Ayepe Road, earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026, has been cancelled,” the notice read.
It added, “A new date for the commissioning of these projects will be communicated in due course. The inconvenience this change may cause is deeply regretted, and we appreciate your understanding and continued support.”
The state government did not disclose the reason for the postponement.
The Laderin Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station is a key transport infrastructure linking Abeokuta to Lagos via the Lagos–Ibadan rail corridor, while the Sagamu–Ayepe Road is considered critical to intra-city mobility and economic activities within Sagamu and its environs.
The road leading to the train station has drawn public attention in recent years following complaints by residents over its poor condition.
Rehabilitation works on the Laderin–Olokuta Road, which serves as the main access route to the Wole Soyinka Train Station in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, commenced in 2024 after sustained public outcry.
The road connects more than 40 communities and had been in a deplorable state for over two years, triggering protests by residents who lamented that the condition had crippled socio-economic activities in the area.
Residents had repeatedly called on the government to intervene, noting that the road was a major link to the train station and surrounding communities.
The Ogun State Government has assured residents that a new date for the commissioning will be announced soon.
