One person sustained severe injuries while 15 others escaped unhurt in a road accident on the Osogbo–Gbongan Expressway on Friday.

The Osun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Adegboyega Leye, disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Agnes Ogungbemi, in Osogbo.

Leye said the accident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. on Friday along the Gbongan-Ode Omu Grammar School axis.

He explained that the accident involved a white commercial bus, which lost control after a tyre burst, exacerbated by excessive speed.

According to the sector commander, a total of 16 passengers were on board, with only one sustaining severe injuries, while the remaining 15 escaped unharmed.

“The injured victim was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Gbongan for medical attention, while the vehicle was confiscated by the FRSC rescue team,” Leye said.

He warned motorists to refrain from speeding, noting that reckless driving often results in the loss of lives and property on highways.
