Callum Wilson set to terminate West Ham contract

West Ham striker Callum Wilson is close to agreeing on a mutual termination of his contract, with sources confirming that talks over the remaining six months are being finalised.

As reported by BBC Sport on Tuesday, Wilson, 33, joined the Hammers on a free transfer last summer and has scored four goals in 18 appearances. However, his opportunities in the first team are expected to reduce following the arrivals of forwards Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos this month.

The Englishman is reportedly eager to play regular football and is reluctant to accept a peripheral role at the club, prompting the decision to seek an early exit.

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed the discussions on Monday, saying:
“Me and Callum and had a lot of conversations. Just 10 minutes ago, we were speaking about that situation. Two strikers have joined, correct. I personally decided these strikers have joined. Callum is a very experienced man; he’s been in the game for so much time, and he knows that his position has changed. We were honest with each other. Yes, your position has changed, but you are still a player for the club, and we still may need him, and he should help us because he joined us.”

Wilson’s departure appears imminent as he looks to join a club where he can feature regularly, while West Ham continues to bolster their attacking options.
