Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has denied reports that he is defecting to the African Democratic Congress, saying the claims are baseless and speculative.

PUNCH Online gathered that the rumours of Badaru Abubakar’s defection to ADC likely stem from the ongoing rift between him and his predecessor, Governor Umar Namadi, within the APC in Jigawa State.

Sources close to the party suggest that tensions have been simmering between the two, with some alleging that Badaru’s supporters have been feeling marginalised in the running of the government and the party affairs in the state.

Our correspondent observed that the internal strife within the Jigawa APC has led to recent speculation about possible defections, with some party members reportedly feeling disillusioned and seeking alternative platforms.

However, Badaru’s swift denial of the rumours suggests he might be keen on repairing the damage and reaffirming his loyalty to the party, potentially paving the way for reconciliation efforts within the APC in Jigawa State.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists by his Media aide, Mati Ali, on Tuesday, the former minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress.

“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief,” Badaru said.

The former minister emphasised that he remains committed to the APC, a party he helped found.

“My loyalty to the party remains absolute and unwavering,” he said.

Badaru urged the public and APC members to disregard the false reports.

“I remain a dedicated member of the party and have no intention whatsoever of leaving the APC,” he said.
