The family of Dr. Abu Babatunde, a House Officer at the Edo University Teaching Hospital, Iyamho, has made a public appeal for financial assistance following his abduction alongside his brother.

In a statement shared with PUNCH Online on Thursday, the family revealed that the kidnappers are demanding N100 million for their release, a sum they described as an “impossible mountain to climb” without public support.

“With teary eyes and a heavy heart, I come to the public today to ask for your prayers, support, and monetary assistance,” the victim’s wife stated, detailing the emotional devastation the family is enduring.

She confirmed that her husband, Babatunde, and his brother, Abu Momoh, were forcibly taken from their home by gunmen.

The captors have since established contact, placing a massive price tag on the victims’ lives.

The family emphasised that the ransom is far beyond their reach and that every contribution, no matter how small, could make a difference in bringing their loved ones home safely.

“The kidnappers are demanding N100 million for the release of Dr. Abu Babatunde, an amount far beyond what I can raise on my own. No amount is too small. Please keep him in your prayers and help us in any way you can,” the statement continued.

This abduction adds to a worrying trend of insecurity in the region, particularly targeting medical professionals.

Friends and colleagues at the Edo University Teaching Hospital have joined the family in spreading the appeal across social media, hoping for a swift and safe conclusion to the ordeal.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that the Edo State Police Command on Saturday, January 3, 2026, confirmed the abduction of two brothers, Ibrahim and Abu Momoh, on January 2 in Auchi, Edo North.

Ibrahim, who is currently undergoing his housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, was reportedly abducted with his brother while returning home from work on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed the younger of the two brothers abducted on January 2 at their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo North.

The father of the deceased, Tahir Momoh, confirmed the death of his son, Abu Momoh, to PUNCH Online.
