The Federal Ministry of Works has proposed a total of N12.39bn in the 2026 Appropriation Bill for the settlement of judgment debts, repayment of liabilities on completed projects and other administrative expenses.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that details obtained from the budget estimates presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu on December 19, 2025, show that the ministry earmarked N5bn specifically for the settlement of judgment debts arising from court rulings against it.
A breakdown of the allocation indicates that N1.4bn is meant to cover general judgment debts, while N3.99bn is set aside for a specific legal matter referenced as suit number LD/7036GCM/2023.
In addition, the ministry proposed N1.4bn for legal fees and N7bn for the repayment of debts linked to completed projects across the country.
The budget proposal also includes N2.8bn for the construction of a presidential helipad and jetty in Lagos State, a provision that has attracted attention amid mounting public concern over fiscal prudence and competing infrastructure needs nationwide.
Other notable allocations under the ministry’s 2026 spending plan include N1.19bn for the renovation of its headquarters building, N350m for the purchase of vehicles for senior special assistants, and N49m for the procurement of medical equipment.
Further provisions show N29.86m earmarked for visibility and media programmes on federal road projects, N28m for the production of the ministry’s in-house magazine, and N21m for presidential and ministerial scorecards.
The ministry also proposed N19.6m for the development of an online central database for court cases and N10.5m for upgrading libraries in its field offices nationwide.
The allocations form part of the ministry’s proposed expenditure within the N58.18tn 2026 federal budget, which also sets aside N5.41tn for defence and security.
As with other components of the spending plan, the Works Ministry’s budget proposals remain subject to scrutiny, possible amendments and final approval by the National Assembly in the coming weeks.
