Women in Rivers State on Saturday laid their wrappers on the road for the convoy of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to drive through during an event in Port Harcourt.
The development was captured in a video shared on X by Mr Lere Olayinka, media aide to the minister.
In the clip, several women were seen spreading their wrappers on the road as Wike’s vehicle made its way into the venue, a gesture often regarded in parts of the country as a mark of honour and deep respect.
Sharing the video, Olayinka wrote, “Port Harcourt City Local Government is today. This is how the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was received a few minutes ago.”
The event took place in the state capital amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, with loyalists of Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara locked in a prolonged power struggle.
