Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that state governments are now receiving significantly higher allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee, urging his fellow governors to stop pretending otherwise and deploy the funds to improve the lives of Nigerians.
Oborevwori said the era of lean state finances was over, insisting that more money was flowing into state coffers following recent economic reforms by the Federal Government.
The governor spoke on Tuesday at the groundbreaking ceremony of the N39.3bn Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to him, claims by some state governments that they are financially constrained do not reflect the current realities of FAAC disbursements.
“More money is coming to the states. I am not a governor who will hide it. There is money,” Oborevwori said.
“Use the money, as we are using it in our state. Use it in your state so that the people will be very happy. The money is coming from somewhere. Some people want to hide that there is no money; there is money.”
The Delta governor stressed that there was no justification for concealing the true state of public finances from Nigerians, adding that improved revenue should translate into visible projects and better living conditions for citizens.
His comments echoed earlier remarks by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who had acknowledged increased funding to states during a New Year homage visit by governors to President Bola Tinubu.
“We are getting more funding due to the restructuring of the economy. Yes, there is inflation, but we are overriding it,” AbdulRazaq had said.
Oborevwori maintained that FAAC allocations had improved significantly, giving states enough fiscal space to fast-track development and rebuild public trust in governance.
He described the Otovwodo Flyover as a critical infrastructure project designed to ease traffic congestion and boost commercial activities across the Ughelli axis and adjoining corridors.
The Otovwodo junction, he noted, serves as a major gateway linking Warri, Asaba and Patani along the East-West Highway, making it one of the busiest traffic corridors in Delta State.
The governor said the project aligned with his administration’s commitment to redefining the social contract through accountable, people-centred infrastructure delivery.
According to him, the flyover will enhance trade, reduce travel time and improve safety for commuters when completed.
Oborevwori appealed to motorists and residents in the area to cooperate with traffic officials during the construction period, assuring them that temporary inconveniences would give way to lasting economic and social benefits.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue investing in strategic road infrastructure as part of a broader economic and urban renewal agenda, insisting that states must justify increased revenues with tangible projects that citizens can see and feel.
