The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been granted a special direct entry admission to study Common Law at the North-West University, Kano, further reinforcing his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most intellectually accomplished traditional rulers.

The university confirmed that the monarch has been admitted into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Common Law and Sharia programme in the Faculty of Law at Level 200, with effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.

In an official admission letter signed by the Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records, Jafaru Sule Muhammad, on behalf of the Registrar, the institution stated that the approval followed the Emir’s application for special consideration and a review of his academic credentials.

“I am directed to inform Your Highness that the University Management has approved your admission into the LL.B Common Law and Sharia programme after due consideration of your application and confirmation that you meet the university’s academic requirements,” the letter read.

The letter, which was addressed to the Emir at the Gidan Rumfa Palace in Kano, noted that the admission is subject to strict compliance with the university’s rules and regulations, and advised him to complete registration with the appropriate academic units.

The university also congratulated the Emir and wished him success in his academic pursuit.

Emir Sanusi II, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is widely regarded as one of the most erudite monarchs in the country, with an extensive academic and professional background.

He earned his first degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in 1981, before completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yola, Adamawa State, where he served as a teacher.

He later obtained a master’s degree in Economics from ABU in 1983 and lectured at the institution for two years.
