OOU To Graduate 147 First Class Students as 5,808 Convocate At 35th Ceremony

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has announced plans to graduate 5,808 students, including 147 First Class degree holders, at its 35th Convocation Ceremonies for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The week-long ceremonies will hold at the university’s main campus in Ago-Iwoye from Thursday, January 22 to Saturday, January 31, 2026, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola, presiding over the events.

Activities will commence on Thursday, January 22, with a press conference at the University Senate Chamber, followed by an undergraduate graduating class meeting with the Vice-Chancellor.

Other highlights lined up include a health walk for staff and students, a special Jumat service, and a convocation service at the Chapel of Abundant Life.

The programme will also feature a cultural day, convocation play, agriculture and engineering exhibitions, and a novelty football match, alongside meetings with PhD graduands and a musical concert.

Bachelor’s degrees will be awarded on Thursday, January 29, to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Social Sciences, while students from Administration and Management Sciences, Agriculture-related faculties, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies and Science will receive their degrees on Friday, January 30.

The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, with the conferment of postgraduate degrees, award of prizes and the presentation of an honorary Doctor of Science degree to the Founder of Optimus Bank and Chairman of Mango Asset Management, Mr. Ayo Ojuroye.

On the same day, the convocation lecture titled “Repositioning Nigerian Universities as Innovation Hubs for Entrepreneurship and National Development” will be delivered by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani.

A breakdown of the graduating students shows that 2,051 earned Second Class Upper Division, 2,927 obtained Second Class Lower, 571 graduated with Third Class, 26 had Pass degrees, while 86 were uncategorised.

The total figure includes full-time students as well as those from the Centre for Continuing Education and Open and Distance Learning programmes.

The Visitor to the university and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is expected to attend the ceremony as Special Guest of Honour.

The event is also expected to draw top academics, government officials, captains of industry and other prominent Nigerians.

The university has invited members of the public to participate in the convocation ceremonies.
