Six suspected hoodlums who allegedly specialised in robbing motorists with broken-down vehicles have been arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce.
The suspects were apprehended during an operation that covered Maryland and the entire stretch of Ikorodu Road on Saturday morning.
The Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this in a statement posted via his X.com (formerly Twitter ) on Saturday, said the operation, which commenced at about 9:30 am, was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements terrorising road users.
According to Wahab, the hoodlums had turned the robbery of stranded motorists into a means of livelihood, violently dispossessing drivers whose vehicles broke down of their valuables.
“Today, at about 9:30 am, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce continued its operation against hoodlums who have taken to the streets of Lagos and violently unleashed terror on drivers whose vehicles broke down, dispossessing them of their valuables as a means of livelihood,” Wahab said.
“The operation covered Maryland and the entire length of Ikorodu Road where some undesirable elements numbering up to six were arrested and taken to the office for prosecution.”
The commissioner assured that swift justice would be served, stating, “All suspects will be arraigned as soon as possible.”
The development comes amid growing concerns about the activities of street urchins and hoodlums who exploit vulnerable motorists across various parts of Lagos.
