An Owu chief, Prince Kazim Adeyanju Bakinsin, has announced the sponsorship of 100 indigent students for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, alongside the rollout of a practical drone technology training programme aimed at empowering youths in the community.
Bakinson, the Aare of Owu Kingdom and Aare Adini of Owu Muslims, said the initiative was designed to bridge access to education and technology while preparing young people for future careers in the digital economy.
Speaking at a briefing, he disclosed that the screening process for the first batch of beneficiaries had commenced, adding that only brilliant but needy students would qualify.
“For WAEC, we are dealing with 100 students in the first phase. I mobilised my friends to support this, and we will pay directly to the schools.
Beneficiaries are selected through interviews and aptitude tests to ensure transparency,” he said.
Bakinson added that the beneficiaries would be tracked beyond secondary school.
“These students will be in our database, and we intend to monitor them through university and ultimately to graduation on scholarship,” he said, stressing that candidates from financially stable homes would be disqualified to give room for the truly indigent.
He also announced that the Ajibosin Platform’s drone training programme had transitioned from virtual to hands-on sessions, covering the entire drone value chain, including piloting, maintenance, entrepreneurship and training.
“We had two months of online classes, and now we are in the physical phase. Participants are being trained not just to fly drones but to build careers around the technology,” Bakinsin said.
According to him, the trainees would play a role in long-term community development through the Owu Development Guide, which will use drone mapping and geospatial data to plan infrastructure and growth.
“Every inch will be mapped so we can define what we want Owu to become in the next 50 years,” he said.
Bakinson further revealed plans to donate a Geographical Information System Resource Centre to Crescent University to support drone image processing, remote sensing and GIS training.
He also disclosed progress on a “Book of Proceedings” documenting Owu history and development initiatives, which he said would be launched at the Owu National Convention in London.
On politics, the Owu chief reaffirmed his support for the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to back the administration’s policies.
He also lauded dignitaries who attended his mother’s 70th birthday celebration in Lagos.
