The Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has announced plans to confer honorary doctorate degrees on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; and former governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, at its 17th convocation ceremony slated for January 29, 2026.

In a statement by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dapo Oke, the institution said the honourees were selected for their outstanding contributions to education, governance, public service and national development.

Tinubu, a former senator who represented Lagos Central between 2011 and 2023, will receive a Doctor of Science in Childhood Education (Honoris Causa).

The university cited her long-standing advocacy for women, children and youth empowerment through the New Era Foundation, as well as her legislative work in education, healthcare and social development. As First Lady, she has continued to champion initiatives promoting women’s rights and youth development.

Governor Abiodun, who has been in office since 2019 and was re-elected in 2023, will be honoured with a Doctor of Science in Education Management (Honoris Causa).

The university said the award recognises his strides in governance, education and humanitarian service, as well as his role in initiating the process that led to the institution’s transition to a federal university.

It added that the governor’s  administration’s “ISEYA” agenda has driven major infrastructure projects, expanded educational access and strengthened social services across Ogun State.

PLATFORM TIMES also gathered that Osoba, a former journalist, pro-democracy activist and two-term governor of Ogun State, will receive a Doctor of Science in Political Science (Honoris Causa).

TASFUED described him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic evolution, noting that his administration signed into law the bill that transformed the former College of Education into a degree-awarding institution, laying the foundation for the present university.

The management said the honorary degrees were in recognition of the recipients’ exceptional achievements and enduring impact on society, adding that the awards reflect the university’s commitment to excellence, integrity and service.

The convocation ceremony will also feature the conferment of degrees on graduating students of the institution.
